Mobile Phone Craze

Mobile phones today are no less important than oxygen, water and food for people. A person can hardly think of surviving in this electronic era without carrying a cell phone in his pocket. It has become essential due to its vast and unlimited advantages. For quite some time now, this trend has become popular in children as well, so much so that children aged just seven to 14 are now using cell phones. The new generation is very attracted by the gadgets that modern society offers, such as computers, gaming devices, iPods and cell phones. These advanced technologies, which occupy the lives of teenagers, offer positive advantages like 24/7 connectivity and information, but at the same time can lead teens into a field of dangers.
Every day brand new cell phone models are introduced, which have become a big craze for our new generation. This has created discrimination and status difference between children. An unhealthy environment of competition has emerged among children and teenagers. They want their parents to buy them a particular cell phone because their best friend has a similar one. This particular aspect of thinking has made them more materialistic. Fancy and expensive mobile phones can potentially pose a threat to children by attracting muggers. Through cell phones, children are becoming more interested in talking and messaging. Their focus on studies is declining. Moreover, text messaging, and such add-ons as internet access and online chatting that many advanced phones offer make children more vulnerable to elements that are beyond parental control. Children should be informed of all the possible hazards that mobile phone use can cause them. School managements should discourage children from bringing their phones within the school premises.
